Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath frontman and heavy metal icon, dies at 76

Osbourne was instrumental in pioneering heavy metal as his band Black Sabbath enjoyed huge success in the 70s. Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of heavy metal group Black Sabbath, has died at the age of 76, his family announced in a statement. The raucous singer, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019, passed away on Tuesday just over two weeks after playing a farewell concert in his home city of Birmingham, England. 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,' read the family's statement. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.' Osbourne was instrumental in pioneering heavy metal – an offshoot of hard rock – as Black Sabbath enjoyed huge commercial success in the 1970s. Nicknamed the 'Prince of Darkness', he once bit off the head of a bat while on stage. Born as John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948 in Birmingham, he left school at 15 and did odd jobs including factory work before teaming up with school friend Geezer Butler in several bands. Later, he switched gears to appear as a sweet father on the reality TV show 'The Osbournes'. He ended his wild career earlier this month when Black Sabbath belted their most iconic songs in front of some 42,000 fans at Villa Park, home of Premier League football club Aston Villa. 'It's the last song ever. Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle … Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,' Osbourne had told the crowd after finishing the set with 'Paranoid' – the band's most famous song. Advertisement 'Black Sabbath are the Beatles of heavy metal. Anybody who's serious about metal will tell you it all comes down to Sabbath,' Dave Navarro of the band Jane's Addiction wrote in a 2010 tribute in Rolling Stone. 'There's a direct line you can draw back from today's metal, through eighties bands like Iron Maiden, back to Sabbath.' Osbourne is survived by Sharon, and their three children – Kelly, Aimee and Jack.

UEFA 'fires warning to Chelsea and Aston Villa over inflated player swap deals' after Premier League duo breached Financial Fair Play rules

Chelsea and Aston Villa have reportedly been warned by UEFA that player swap deals will be monitored closely to make sure fees have not been inflated. UEFA are believed to have taken issue with at least one previous deal, according to The Times. In recent years Premier League clubs have paid sizeable fees to each other in instances where players have moved in each direction. And there have been protests from rivals that this has been done with the aim of artificially increasing transfer income in order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Earlier this month it was revealed that UEFA had stepped in to knock down the value of at least one deal that involved the two clubs. The Blues have been hit with a €31million (£26.8m) fine for breaching UEFA's financial rules. That figure could potentially rise to a record-breaking €91m (£78.5m) if they fail to comply within the next four years amid the threat of further sanctions hanging over them. Aston Villa were also fined €11m (£9.5m), which could rise to €26 million (£22.4m). UEFA stated at the time that they had looked at 'transactions involving the exchange of players' and that those 'required specific adjustments to the club's financial result'. The Times add that that UEFA will continue to scrutinise all such swap deals but Chelsea and Villa will be particularly under the microscope following their settlements. Omari Kellyman joined Chelsea from Villa for £19m last summer but is yet to make an appearance for the club. Ian Maatsen, a product of the Chelsea academy, went the other way for £37.5m and went on to play 29 times for the club in the top flight last term.

‘World's sexiest footballer' Alisha Lehmann given personal BODYGUARD at Women's Euros after being trolled by vile fans

SWITZERLAND star Alisha Lehmann has been given a personal bodyguard during the Women's Euros following vile online trolling. Lehmann, 26, is one of women's football 's most high-profile players off the pitch and has gained unprecedented popularity in recent times. 12 12 12 12 The Juventus forward is part of Switzerland 's squad at the tournament, which is being played in their home country, but has played just nine minutes of action so far as the Swiss booked their spot in the quarter-finals. Despite having little impact on the pitch so far, Lehmann is causing a stir off it as her 16.8million Instagram followers try and catch a glimpse of her. Sven Micosse, a press spokesperson for the Swiss women's national team, has revealed that private security has been hired as a result. Speaking to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Micosse said: "We always ensure that the safety of the players is our top priority in all stadiums. "This is organized by UEFA during the tournament, and our head of security is always on site. "After the matches, he is always there when the players approach the fans, and due to Alisha Lehmann's fame, he sometimes accompanies them a little further." Bild have reported that Lehmann is often seen near a "man in a suit" that focuses on her safety. Lehmann, who has been dubbed 'the world's sexiest footballer', has unfortunately been subject to abuse as a result of her rising profile. The former Aston Villa star has been criticised for "over-the-top" celebrations during Juventus' title-winning jubilation this season - with fans pointing to her limited involvement in the success. Lehmann played just 37 minuted for Juve since the turn of the year. Other abuse towards the social media star and pro footballer has come following her lack of involvement with the Swiss national team during the Euros. Lehmann, who was called up to the squad on late notice following an injury to FC Koln midfielder Alena Bienz, has been unfairly targeted for her lack of involvement in the tournament. 12 12 12 12
